The result of the stillbirth of the black revolution was the formation of a racist society in Tocquevillian America. America became a "Herrenvolk 
democracy" -the term is that of the sociologist Pierre L. van den Berghe-
a regime that is "democratic for the master race but tyrannical for the subordinate groups."
